This is ancient, it was going to be a commission but the client refused to pay for it, I occasionally get people who use me for a free sketch due to my payment policy, when I reopen for commissions I'm thinking I'm going to be asking for payment upfront.
I think I might offer the unpaid sketches as cheap, pre-posed commission in the future, what do people think?
Also keep any eye out, I'm going to be updating and revising my commission TOS. Nothing major is going to change, I thought I'd make it clearer and more defined.

  1. Well thats only one way to fix such things — take prepaid or 50% of price before you'll start to draw.
    Wonderfull sketch =).

  2. I mean, I haven't got cheated that often, maybe I'll get someone who vanishes once or twice a year and it’s only at the sketching stage so it’s not too much work lost, but it’s enough and puts a delay on the commissions behind. The latter genuinely makes me sad.
I'm thinking of taking payment up front, not to secure a place or straight away as I usually have a massive waiting list and I don't like the idea of keeping people's money for weeks, even months, without having anything to show them. It feels wrong and sort of a bit shady of me, you know? I'd ask them for payment as soon as I was ready to start.
I had thought about doing the 50% up front thing, when I've commissioned people in the past I always felt more secure doing that but I'm not sure about doing it myself, I like to get paid and then get rolling into action, I like the straight-forward-ness of it.
I'll work something out, I'm in a real not sure what do situation, there's no right or wrong.
Sorry if I’m sounding like a whiny bitch over this, I’m just not sure what’s for the best right now! =C
